DIY Project: Favor Box with Belly Band

June 10th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 27 comments

Our next adorable idea that Laura sent us is the perfect favor boxes that she designed, complete with an oh-so-cute belly band. Tucked inside were yummy truffles that the Larson crew, myself included, helped to make one Saturday afternoon along with a little note that said, “life is sweet.” Ahhh, too cute for words!

DIY favor box with belly band

Materials
Color Printer
Paper Cutter or X-acto Knife with self healing mat
8.5 x 11″ 80lb white card stock
8.5 x 11″ 80lb colored card stock
2 x 2” Favorboxes (like this from Sophiesfavors.com)
Permanent Double Sided Tape
Gluestick
1/2” raised adhesive foam squares (like this)

Instructions
1. Download the Favorbox Card Template. Print using the highest settings on your color printer to ensure that the text is crisp. There are 30 Cards per sheet.

2. Cut each Card out on the dashed line, making sure to cut off all of the black ink so that the edge of each card remains white.  The cards should measure 1-1/2” x 1-1/2”.

3.  Cut the colored cardstock out into 1.75” squares.

4.  Glue the Favorbox Cards to the colored cardstock squares.

3.  Cut the Favorbox bellybands into 9-1/2” strips.

3. Create a mock fold around your favorbox with your bellybands to see where you should create the creases on each side of the box. After you are certain that the bellyband will fit tight around the favorbox, secure the wrap around the favorbox using double sided tape.

4.  Center the cards on top of the favorboxes and secure them with the 1/2” raised foam squares.

How good of a printer do you need to use for this to come out looking this great? What type of printer did you use?

  2. Abby Larson says:

Most epsons will work, even the smaller, more affordable models. As will many color laser printers. I would suggest testing one sheet of 80lb cardstock on your printer (sometimes stores will let you take one home for free) before you buy all of the supplies.

  3. we're loving the color combination! simply adorable.

Hi Laura, I have InDesign but I am very new to the program and don't really know what I am doing. All of your paper items were fab and I would like to create smething similar, but using my own design. Do you have any templates or instructionals or pointers that you can send me? If so, please email at lora.jackson@gmail.com

    Thanks!

  17. Laura says:

Lora...You should try doing an online tutorial for indesign...they are great. You really just need to know the basics to create a template in indesign. You need to know how to use the line tool and how to place an image and then copy it around.

  18. Laura says:

I actually created my images in photoshop and then brought them into indesign and copied it.

  19. Lora says:

    Sounds great. Thanks Laura!

I LOVE this. I'm trying to do a lot of my DIY projects for my wedding. Is indesign a software that you buy from some where? Do you have any in a light blue or purple?

  21. Laura says:

I'm sure you can download free trial versions of indesign online.
