This just might be the cutest, budget friendly wedding I’ve ever seen. The couple was going for a “Wonder Years backyard BBQ.” Jess and Christian wanted their guests to get a taste of the city they now call home, so they held their wedding in downtown LA at the Oviatt Penthouse. They hired the fabulous Courtney Toney of Joyful Weddings and Events and Kim Fox Photography to help them design their fabulous day!

I mean, seriously!? Is this not the most adorable wedding you’ve ever seen?? Here are a few more fun details from Courtney…
The flowers were adorable- striped tulips & runnuculus in the bouquets & bouts & adorable wheat grass & daisy centerpieces. The food, by Thank Goodness, It’s Sophia (TGIS), was super fun & delicious. They had a burger bar & a salad bar. Instead of plates, red & white check paper hot dog trays were used. Jess had originally wanted to get the In-N-Out catering truck, but it is a bit difficult to find a site in downtown LA where you can pull a huge truck right up to the event.
My favorite touch of the entire night, though, was the dessert bar. One of my favorite dessert companies, Vanilla Bake Shop, made the most incredible mini-cupcake & icebox dessert display. Words cannot express how delicious these treats were & they looked completely adorable as well!

What I loved most about this couple was that they were not afraid of taking a chance and doing something a bit different. The wedding was very intimate- only 40 guests, and was full of personal touches. Each table was a different food photo; Jessica takes incredible photos of food- she even has a blog where she posts them. It’s so fun! The programs & invitations featured a retro-style photo of the two of them sitting on a big hamburger. They gave each guest a pair of knock-off Ray Bans to wear during the ceremony and Jess found an amazing grass doormat to use for the escort cards.
Thank you so much Courtney Toney for sharing all of the fabulous details! I am in love! And of course, to the adorable Jess and Christian…I kind of want you to be my new best friends.

This is really adorable! The hamburgers look so great! I would love to go to a wedding and be served a nice, large hamburger!
LOVE THIS!
So so cute.
Absolutely adorable. Every detail is just so sweet.
Can you share what the budget was on this wedding?
Thank you
So cute and stylish too! Love that dessert bar.
the food looked amazing. such a charming wedding.
Hi Lia!
The wedding was right around $10,00.
Thanks everyone for the sweet comments! We had so much fun with Jess and Christian!
Sorry- that was supposed to be $10,000.
this looks like my dream wedding! Love the Wonder Years reference. Please, please, please tell me where her adorable dress came from!
I loved that you used a coordinator for a budget-friendly wedding! Do you mind me asking how much of your budget was used towards the coordinator? Thanks!!
I love all the new style weddings today...everyone is just doing what they want and not what everyone thinks they should do or what is "traditional" for weddings. PS I love her dress...if I had great legs like hers I would love to wear it for my wedding! I love the picture of their venue...the one looking down on everything. Thanks for sharing such a cool wedding!
Everything about it is so completely PLAYFUL!! This may actually be a favorite of mine.
Courtney is so talented...one of the only people I know that could pull off such a fabulous wedding on such a tiny budget!
This is the second BBQ "themed" wedding I've read about this week and I love them, they look so beautiful, relaxed and intimate, it's all abut the couple and their friends and family, just like it should be! (In my opinion)
Having a short wedding dress is very cost-effective! It means you can have more elaborate fabric than the traditional full-length gown. A burger and salad bar is a great idea. I would much prefer a big burger than the small 'gourmet' main served at a friend's wedding in a 4.5 star hotel. I found I drank more alcohol to ignore my hunger. :D
I really think everyone deep down wants to eat an amazing burger at their wedding. You know most Brides are very health conscious prior to the wedding... quite the way to reward oneself!
I am in looooove with those retro invites!!! I would love to know where they are from/how they were made! I am a big fan of anything retro/vintage so these would be perfect for my wedding. Thanks!
Adorable! I love the dessert bar.
Hi, I'm the bride....
Thank you for all the compliments! Courtney was great! Book her!
The dress was a Watters from House of Brides, an online discounter. We actually did the invites ourselves. We staged our own photo shoot at home. I shot my husband, he shot me, I shot the burger and then we phtoshopped them together to create the invite. I can't remember which service we used, but it was one of those online, print your own cards things. We also made our own reply cards and programs and all of that. Definitely less than $100.
Fabulous! I would never have believed this was $10K. You guys should be proud!
Wonderful wedding! So inspiring!!!
i think the shoes are great! i would love to know where there from.
[...] I’ve recently been helping my best friend browse through websites to find ideas for a couple she knows that wants to have an inexpensive wedding without sacrificing charm or style. We cycled through a variety of ideas, including a tea party theme, a casual garden setting and a simple beach concept, but none of them really seemed to fit the couple until we found this adorable retro diner wedding on Style Me Pretty.
