Hi Stephanie,
I am hardly the one to go to for advice, but your long string of ? marks looked desperate. IMHO, you can't consider color without form? Is the style of your & your maids dresses traditional, formal, casual, modern? What about the venue for the ceremony and reception? If the style for these things is traditional and formal, I would suggest a very pale pink or pale peachy pink. If your style is more modern and/or informal, you can be bolder - try a bright fuchsia. For a cottage, country style wedding, you can fall somewhere in the middle. Think of how a field of wild flowers. I would definitely ask your floral designer's advice and when you think you know what you want, make sure the designer does a sample for you.

We're using plum and lilac in our Summer 2010 wedding as well. But I'm pairing them with champagne and black for a glamorous vintage, evening affair. Can't wait to see it play out!

amen and hallelujah. I am so tired of people stressing over something being the exact shade they desire. come ON! relationships (i.e. marriages) are not about perfection and precision but about depth and coordination - why should your wedding say otherwise?

I like the layering idea. I didn't realize that I had to inform the parents what to wear until my mom asked me, and I'm trying to figure out what to do.
