Engagement Portraits

I am really curious to know how many of you are doing engagement portraits? We decided to not do any and I hugely regret it. I would love to have some really fun, artsy shots of my now husband and I before we tied the knot. So, lately, I have been kind of enamored with the creativity that couples are infusing into their photographs.

Love, love, love the bubbles! These were taken by a relatively new photographer to the scene, Kelty of Steep Street currently out of San Francisco. Her work is a little bit vintage, totally light hearted and absolutely lovely. Definitely worth a visit to her blog.

And of course, who does it better than Max Wanger. His latest engagement shot is simply perfection…

Doing one in a couple of weeks! We thought about passing just to save a few bucks, but we're not great about taking a lot of pictures, and I'd love to have some really special, unusual shots while we're still young ;).

I did an engagement session, and was beyond thrilled with the results. We did a more formal set at the Viceroy in Santa Monica, and then a fun set at the Santa Monica pier and beach. It gave us a chance to get to know our photographer better before our wedding, gave me tons of pictures to use to make a guestbook for our wedding on blurb, and was lots of fun!

I am! Actually, the wedding package we chose included an engagement shoot...but after seeing my cousin's pre-marital shots, it was a no brainer.

We did an engagement session and the only time that worked before our upcoming June wedding for both us and our photographer was this past January. As luck would have it, we had the worst winter in history and it was 20 degrees outside the day of our session. Cold weather aside, we had a BLAST swinging on swings, taste testing at a local distillery, and playing with our dogs!

My fiance and I did our e-session one year after oue engagement. He have had a long engagement. We took our engagement pictures with Angelica Glass and the photos are out of this world. I would love to share them with you.

  6. I wish ours had been a little bit more like the ones you showed - I like some of them but overall was kind of disappointed! Our session was pretty short and didn't really capture what I love in all the fun sessions I see.

We are! Two! We are doing one in a few weeks overseas and we're planning to do one here in Sydney too closer to the wedding. Can't wait!

...you could always do a shoot for an anniversary. They are meant to be fun, and shouldn't just be reserved for engaged couples.

Okay. That was amazing. I L-O-V-E that set of pictures. I can only hope that ours come out that fab. The filters that photographers use are awesome, I love the vintage feel that it gives the images. I second the idea of doing them for your anniversary. Maybe some w/your little girl and some without?

I love these fun photo's..they just make you smile, and they just make me even more excited about getting mine done in 2 days time! I think e-session's are becoming so much more popular, even though a couple of my friends asked me what it was when I told them I was getting them done!!

My fiance and I had an engagement shoot. It was a prerequisite for me because I wanted to feel out our photographer since he is relatively new at shooting weddings and I wanted to make sure he'd capture us like I wanted him to. It was also included in our wedding package (most photographers in the midwest provide some sort of photo session packages). It was the windiest day ever and my long hair was not only in my face but also in my fiance's! It was, however, one of the best hours I've ever spent with my fiance. It was a blast and our photos turned out spectacularly fantastic.

And Abby, I'm totally shocked you never had engagement photos! Maybe you should have a post-wedding photo shoot?!? I know it's been a few years, but you could still get some of these fantastic photos taken!!

  13. I LOVE e-sessions... they give me a chance to get to know my clients before their big day and I really get to know their personalities. What I love most about doing Engagement Sessions is the fact that we don't have to worry about getting dirty... so clients run, jump, and play without a care in the world.

My fiance and I opted for an engagement shoot. We live in Philadelphia and realized that we don't have any pictures of ourselves in and around our favorite spots in the city. We plan to grab some shots at the Philadelphia Musuem of Art and the surrounding gardens in Fairmount Park as well as at the adjacent Fairmount Water Works. Then it's off to areas in Center City for some shots with a great city feel to them. I have yet to schedule it, but we're thinking around September. I really hope to get some great creative and photo journalistic shots out of it. Not to mention, it will give us an opportunity to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Yayee for e-sessions!

  15. I have been here a couple of times and I have commented but have noticed that I can't see my comments:(
I just love these pictures, its funny not many keep their engagement photos as some what of a memory, I have lots of friends that have gotten engaged and yes they have photos but its not really such a big thing, and after seeing this I think I am going to make it a memory.
