Real Wedding: Sneak Preview

April 9th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 10 comments

For some reason, I have been really loving mismatched bridesmaids dresses these days. There is something effortlessly elegant, as if the girls chose the dress from their own closet and just showed up looking that perfect together. So, when Anne sent me this great before/after of her bridesmaids dress planning, I really wanted to share!

I love that she was able to “map” it all out before the girls made their purchase so as to ensure that they would look beautiful together. The hues aren’t matchy-matchy and yet they compliment each other perfectly. The silhouettes are all lovely and flatter each girl as an individual. LOVE!

From Anne, the beautiful bride…

My color palette was derived from the colors I used in my invite which was originally inspired by the gardens at the Eolia mansion. I really wanted each bridesmaid to look different but similar. I allowed them freedom to choose their dress as long as they stayed within the color guidelines. In the end, I sent them a jpg mock-up before the wedding so they could see what their dresses would look like all together. I also allowed them to wear whatever silver shoes they wanted.

We have so much more coming up from this gorgeous wedding!

I'm planning pof doing a similar thing for my bridesmaids... smae color and fabric, and possibly even recommend a company, but letting them choose the style. That was every one feels comfortable and looks great!

I love the green & all the individual looks. I think it makes for more flattering photos, giving it depth instead of one blob of color.

Love this too! How did you articulate what your "color guidelines" were? It looks too perfect to have just told them "green!" Any other advice on how to actually pull this look off?

I told my girls to wear long black dresses, any style, designer, or fabric. They are VERY excited about it so far, I think it will look great all together!

Each bridesmaid having their own mismatched dress is an interesting thought but probably not as dramatic in photos.

This makes me so happy to see. My girls will all be in lemon colored dresses of different cuts and lengths. This looks great!

I'm doing something similar with my bridesmaids. Sending them a paint chip-like strip with the colors (blues, blue-violets, and black or dark gray) I would like them to choose from and then a few guidelines. "No plunging necklines, no hoochy mini skirt lengths or thigh-high slits. Keep it formal (no beachy attire or sundresses please!). Please wear black shoes." They're all excited and so am I!

Also my fiance's guys are dressing in a dark suit of their choosing (dark gray, dark blue or black) and mismatched ties in shades of vibrant blues.
