Now on to the really gorgeous part of today’s real wedding…

From the beautiful bride…
When our guests arrived at the Silverado Resort in Napa they were greeted with a welcome box filled with Virginia peanuts, homemade sugar cookies, water, mints, a map of Napa’s vineyards, and a letter from Steve and me. The white boxes were tied with crème tulle mimicking the English Netting that my dress was made of. Tulle was seen again on our ceremony programs and the bridesmaid’s dresses.
Our ceremony took place on a lawn set with white folding chairs that were canopied by Oak trees. Our “alter” was a large rock positioned between two blooming crepe myrtles. Reflecting a neutral color palette of black, grey, and cream, the wedding party processed down the side porch of the house to music being played by a bluegrass-style trio. Midway through the ceremony, one of Steve’s cousins read an except from the Velveteen Rabbit, the part about growing old together and finding beauty in what is used, worn, and well-loved.
At the reception and dinner we served traditional southern fare including ham biscuits, fried green tomatoes, cheddar cheese grits, black-eyed pea salad, braised short ribs, and red velvet cake. Tables were set under a tent and made up with cream linens, vintage glass votives, and antique silver vases filled with peonies, roses, and Dusty Miller foliage.
