Real Wedding: Leah and Michael, II

March 5th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 11 comments

I try really hard to feature a wide variety of wedding styles, budgets, fashions, the works. And although this wedding definitely pushes the boundaries of tradition, it’s so fabulous, I knew that no matter what your style…you would love it as much as I do! The entire affair was put on for a grand total of $8500 and yet the photographs tell a much more expensive story. Love.

Do you know where her shoes are from? They are so cute!

  2. Leah says:

They are vintage 1940s peep toes by Daniel Green. I lucked upon them in a very reasonable vintage store, but if you google them, I think you may find some in ebay auctions.

I am loving the new crop of weddings featured on SMP. Down to earth, real, and budget-friendly. Thank you! After the overload of ridiculously over-styled, expensive weddings one sees in the bridal magazines, it's nice to have a place to visit (this blog) that features celebrations that are within reach of the average bride.

  4. the shoes! the dress! oh, la la!

Are those fishnet hosiery with a black seam? So cute! Can you please let me know where to get them?

My favorite site for seamed stocking is: http://www.secretsinlace.com/ They are perfectly detailed with keyholes, cuban heels and finishing welts, and beautifully made on the same machines used in the 1940's and 1950's. And they last forever! Dita Von Teese has a collection here. (This is not an ad, I am just an avid fan as great stockings are hard to find :)

However, the ones in the photo are plain old Victoria's Secret, ordered online. As the fishnet variety never runs, I thought it was a safe bet for such an important day!

This is such a gorgeous wedding...just curious how many guests you had, it's amazing that you did it on such a budget.

We had 55 people at the sit down dinner, so it was quite intimate, and affordable! At the church we had a few more-- my parents invited some of their friends, and people brought their children (the dinner was adults only). What helped was that after dinner we had a party at a separate bar/ dance venue (not shown on SMP) where we opened it up to absolutely anyone. That way a lot of my friends who I otherwise could not have seen on that day were able to come. The reception dinner was open bar, hosted by us. But the dance party was cash bar, and cost us nothing. I thought it was a great compromise.

This wedding is gorgeous. I was wondering where you got the green and blue tie from-it's exactly what I'm looking for.

  10. Leah says:

It was from Macy's, it's Countess Mara? says my husband. We picked it up on super sale like the day before we flew out-- lucky!

Your wedding-style looks Retro Chic, especially since it oozes rock 'n' cool. This is the kind of photographer we're looking for, "yet the photographs tell a much more expensive story". Our wedding will be budget beautiful BUT that doesn't mean looks-budget-in-the-photos! I am a control-freak about photos so I'm totally lost about finding THE photographer, one who will tell our story for us rather than us re-telling our story to every person we know & love. The photos I really enjoyed were; girls in the room with womens portait, the chapel, couple outside, the band members… oops, groomsmen :D
