Wedding Dress Picks: Lea-Ann Belter

February 9th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 31 comments

I had just put out the first 2009 Wedding Dress Picks (earlier this morning) when I got an email from one of our readers, Erica, who had fallen in love with Lea Ann Belter’s gowns and wanted to make sure that SMP readers knew all about her. I took one look at her gowns and completely agreed.

lea-ann belter

Simply beautiful. There really isn’t any other way to put it. The soft, wispy fabric paired with lace overlays and satin belts. Lea-Ann’s work is feminine, totally romantic and forever timeless. Love, love, love!

So, after all of this, I am DYING to know who your favorite designers for the season are? Oh and tomorrow, I am conquering bridesmaids dresses. Probably next to color palettes, the number one question that I get is about bridesmaids dressses!

Beautiful!... but what about Amy Kuschel?!? Her gowns are so lovely.

  2. Marian says:

Totally agree with Juniper. I immediately thought of Amy Kuschel when I saw these gowns. She's got the same romantic simplicity that Lea-Ann does. Secretly I'm excited about Amy Kuschel because I bought one of her gowns for my own wedding :).

  3. Zoe says:

I'm in love with Nicole Miller's dresses, especially the Taryn. Some of them are pretty pricey, but there are quite a few well under $1000.

  4. I'm loving the dress posts today - thank you! By the way, Lea-Ann Belter is Canadian for all those Canucks who want to support local designers.

i LOVE Lea-Ann Belter. i got the Sophia dress from her 2008 collection for my august wedding. i felt so beautiful and the dress felt so light! (that was something that was important to me, as my wedding day was long)

also, i got to meet Ms. Belter -- very sweet.

  7. Brooke says:

Wow those are GORGEOUS! I'm definitely putting her on my shopping list!

  8. notsojenny says:

all of these designers have been beautiful but my stand by favorites are always JLM and Judd Waddel, then again every designer seems to have at least one design each season that i sit and stare at for hours, trying to figure out where else i could wear such a dress

  9. Courtney says:

Love these dresses. I really love Paloma Blanca's line. Apparently the designer is more well known in Canada - but everytime I pick up a bridal magazine - I always love love love the dresses they advertise.

  10. Lauren says:

I really like La Sposa, San Patrick, and Pronovias. I believe they are all somewhat related company wise. Their use of lace is amazing! I am partial, of course, since I bought a La Sposa, but they are fairly affordable and such great quality and so beautiful!

  11. how lovely - all so gorgeous. wouldn't it be fun to do a gallery of dreadful wedding dresses? Just kidding ...

  12. Anna says:

I can't believe no one mentioned Amsale! I love the clean architectural lines of her gowns.

  13. Anna says:

oops, I didn't see the feature on Amsale below.

  14. AnnieBelle says:

I love love love Watters and WTOO by Watters as well as the bridesmaids dresses - just so beautiful, modern, feminine, and I sooo love the price tags for them! My dress was the most comfortable thing I have ever put on!

  15. Terrah says:

Wow, I absolutely LOVE the Tess gown. TFS!

  16. AnnC says:

Those Lea Ann are awsome and from all the dresses figured, the ones I like most. But I love the combination of lace and silk and beautiful simple lines...
In France, my favorites are still Cymbeline Paris and also Delphine Manivet ( http://www.delphinemanivet.com ). Worth a look even if you can only buy her dresses in Paris.

  17. JLS says:

I have never heard of Lea Ann but her dresses are so pretty! Thank you for posting! I can't decide which is my favourite.

  18. Rachel F. says:

I love Paloma Blanca...really simple, beautiful styles! But I also love Lea Ann.

  19. Sara A says:

I really love Judd Waddell's spring collection. So clean and chic. There are at least 5 gowns I would happily wear!

  20. Krista says:

I just had my first dress fitting on Saturday! Lea ann did all the alterations herself! She only uses natural fibers in her dresses and they are all made at the flagship store in Toronto!!!! I love my dress so much!

  21. Karyn says:

For my wedding gown, I wanted to know where the fabric was from, where it was made and also be chic. So, I chose a the Sunray dress from Adele Wechsler's Eco Couture collection. All of her dresses are made in Toronto and the Eco Couture are made from natural, vegetable dyed, and recycled fabrics. Also, many of her dresses have unique detailing on the back.

  22. August Bride says:

I just bought a LeAnn Belter dress in Maryland over the weekend. It was an awesome experience, the designer was there for a trunk show and she assessed my measurements herself so that she could create the gown appropriately. I purchased the "Laurel" dress, which doesn't look great in the web photos (even though her model is beautiful) but was amazing in person...the key is to have the bust filled out a little bit more than in the picture.

  23. smileyface says:

Congrats, AugustBride. I bought a dress at that trunk show this weekend too. It was a great experience and neat to meet Lea-Ann. I bought "Tess". So pretty.

  24. smileyface says:

I also agree that while the model is beautiful, and the picture great, these dresses look even better in person and on. :)

  25. Renjane says:

I'm biased as I bought a LeaAnn Belter dress for my wedding at her Toronto store. Once I tried her dresses on and felt how light they are (100% silk) and the quality of the work (and she is wiling to do things like raise necklines etc) there was just no comparison to the other 30 or so dresses I tried on!

  26. nikki says:

does anyone know the average price of the 'Tess' dress? there's one store in my state that carries her line and if it's completely out of my price range, i'd rather not trek all the way there for such disappointment. (this is one of three gowns i have liked so far!... i think i'm too picky.. :(

i realize no one will see this probably. thought i'd give it a shot. nice website!

    Nikki --

I wore a Lea-Ann Belter dress (Madeline) for my August 08 wedding, and purchased it in September 07. Without fittings, etc, it was $2400. So worth it when you see and feel her dresses!

    Good luck!

  28. Kelly says:

I adore Lea-Ann Belter! Once I saw her line my dress budget was history. I purchased Isabella and I can't wait to wear it in two months for my wedding! The quality of her fabrics and designs absolutely is top notch.

For the bride looking for Tess at a lower price, have you looked at preownedweddingdresses.com? They have a handful of Lea-Ann gowns for sale, several of which the brides never wore for whatever reason.

  29. Alyssa says:

I just looked online and fell in love. The 2008 collection - Sophia is the one I want!! I'm going to try and find it...

  30. manu says:

    Hi!!
First sorry for my English. I am Italian, I tried to find the Charlize dress here in Italy but the Jenny Peckham seller in Milan told me that the Charlize dress was not made for the normal market, it has been sewn only for the catwalk of NY and it has been used in the 2010 campain.
As you know, is this true? Pheraps somebody knows also its price and where I could buy it from here....
    Thanks to all.
    bye

  31. Bri says:

I'm 5"2' and wear a size 2 sometimes 4. I found a preowned Isabella gown listed as a size 12, street size 8. Does anyone know if it can be altered to fit my size? The seller states she didn't have it altered from the original state. Not too familiar with the alteration process. Thanks!
