Wedding Dress Picks: David’s Bridal

February 9th. 2009 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 28 comments

Who says you have to pay an arm and a leg to look drop dead gorgeous on your wedding day? Yes, David’s Bridal can be a little overwhelming, but I swear…they have some absolutely lovely dresses. Stick with the more modern silhouettes and the simple fabrics and you’ll no doubt look stunning.

Loving all of these designs, especially the bottom right, bohemian style gown. So, so pretty. Remember that when you save a little money on your gown, you oftentimes have a little left over to modify it so that it looks perfect and fits your body to a T.  Also, spending a little extra on pretty accessories…a great hairpiece, a beautiful viel, earrings that really sparkle…is the best way to truly elevate your look.

I agree! I got my dress at David's Bridal (it's actually the one in the middle row, on the right), and I absolutely love it. They really had a lot of pretty dresses all around $1,000 and under. Thanks for featuring them.

  2. MKottemann says:

Thanks for including this! While I didn't get my dress from David's Bridal, they are a really great option for some brides. One of my best friends is wearing the middle dress(middle row) and it is absolutely gorgeous!

  3. Megan says:

My dress is the one in the very center, but in champagne. I was so surprised to find such a gorgeous and affordable wedding dress - and at David's to boot! Thanks for including this post - it's important to remember that even though this is your day, it's only ONE day and you don't have to go broke paying for it!

  4. Mo says:

Thank you for including more affordable eye candy! I love the first one in the middle with the little bow.

  5. Sheila says:

I'm totally surprised. The one on the right side on the top is just plain old gorgeous.

  6. Shaila says:

Mine is the one in the middle on the left, in ivory. It is absolutely gorgeous, and I gotta say it looks better on a girl with curves than on a very slim. straight figure. The train is the best part, which the picture doesn't show.

  7. rebecca says:

wow! I am so impressed and surprised by the selection shown here. I was so overwhelmed when i first walked in, that i turned around and walked back out and got my dress elsewhere. But this is great to give other brides to be some wonderful advice. tHanks for including!

  8. Joy says:

Love the dresses. These dresses are just awesome

  9. Allison says:

I just bought the one smack dab in the middle!! I went to David's Bridal on a whim (ok my friend called and made the appointment for me because I wouldn't, the wedding is still 20 months away!) I had a modest budget but was looking at other options because I had encountered several recently married ladies who were very snooty about David's ("don't go there, it's cheesy" "it's a bridal factory" "other brides will have the same dress" blah blah blah) Well you know what? It was a great experience, I was treated wonderfully, my dress was under-budget and an additional $100 off. I got the veil and headband and dress all for under my dress budget (yay) and I picked up the dress on Saturday and it is even more beautiful than I remember (the catalog pic doesn't do it justice). Plus you can't beat the discount you get for your bridesmaids if you buy your dress there (the one in Dedham MA at least - you get $20 off per b-maid dress....my ladies are excited about this, and my two girls in NYC are happy that there will be a DB near them so they can actually try on the dress. Plus I got coupons for mother and grandmother - of the bride/groom dresses). Anyways, I've rambled - thanks for including this on SMP, hopefully it will encourage people to give David's Bridal a chance - I'm glad I did.

  10. Laura says:

You've highlighted the best (IMO)! I went into Davids Bridal expecting to want the first row middle dress (ridiculously soft, but no train), then it was a tie between top row left dress and middle dress (top left is so glamorous), then I bought the middle dress right, but saw the center dress and exchanged! What that center photo doesn't show is the dramatic "V" back, it has a wonderful vintage feel to it. Great DB picks!

As long as you don't mind trying on dresses with a dozen other girls who are trying on the same ones it's completely worth it-- you can't beat the price!

  11. Sarah says:

I had an appointment at DB a few weeks back and tried on most of the dresses here. My favorite is the center top row dress...perfect for a warm weather wedding! I'm keeping it on my list & it's definately in my budget :)

  12. Tobi says:

The bottom right one is my favorite but mostly because its reminiscent of my dress, Mon Cheri's Rhiannon. They did a really nice job w/this collection

  13. Leah says:

I am trying to find the first dress on the left in the top row on the David's website,,,, does anyone know the style number? or can find it for a link?!!

  14. MeganD says:

Top left: So elegant and structured. DB has certainly up-ed the style factor in their recent collections.

  15. Allison says:

    Top Left: Style: CD278

  16. Hafeeza says:

The dress with the bow (middle left)comes in an ivory and you can ask for no bow - it is gorgous on. The picture does not do it justice.

  17. Rena says:

I just bought the one in the middle row on the far left.
It is even more beautiful in person, the picture doesn't do it justice.
It came in just the other day, I can't wait to pick it up!
If only it were so easy choosing a dress for my bridesmaids!

  18. Necole says:

I too fell in love with the dresses at David's Bridal, but still they were a little too expensive for my budget. But I found a web-site www.gioavonnisbridalboutique.net and they custom make wedding gowns. I received my gown about a week ago and it's beautiful and it looks just like the gown I wanted. The best part! It was only $400!!!! Yes, thats what I said!

  19. Hope says:

Here's what you won't get at Davids Bridal--plush, overstuffed couches where your mom and maid of honor can sip bottled water while you try on your dress--soft lighting--undivided attention.

Here's what you will get--an absolutely gorgeous dress that looks exactly like a high-end designer gown. I could have spent more on my dress but decided not to. Why pay so much more for a dress that you will be wearing for a few hours? Don't let snobbery keep you away from getting a steal on your dress!

  20. Dee says:

I do not recommend Gioavonni's Bridal Boutique - they royally screwed up my wedding dress. When I pulled it out of the shipping package I just cried. I didn't even have to put it on to know it looked nothing like what I wanted. Web site prices may be tempting but if you want the dress of your dreams try them on and buy them in person from a real shop!

  21. I am speaking on behalf of our family's business. There were a few things on the gown that she wasn't pleased with and we offered to fix them for her. She didn't want it fixed. I have also read on another blog that her auntie fixed the items on the gown that we offered to fix and now she is wearing. If you would to ask us about any issue, or any concern you have by reading some blogs, feel free to email us directly. We save all our emails, correspondences, and negative blog pages just for these type incidents.

    Regards

  22. Patty says:

I went in to DB expecting to get a strapless dress with a blue sash, but I ended up ordering CD278 (top left). I love it! It has a really cool bow in the back. I cannot wait for the dress to come in so I can try it on again.

  23. Dee says:

Before ordering something as important as a wedding dress online, I recommend the following:
    - do a web search and see if there are any ratings, reviews or complaints. ANT+Y web business will only post positive reviews and testimonials on their web site!
    - check the BBB to se if they have a rating or complaints. Had I checked the BBB report for Gioavonni's Bridal Boutique, I would have seen they have a rating of F http://www.bbb.org/nashville/business-reviews/bridal-shops/gioavonnis-bridal-boutique-in-nashville-tn-37037283
and would have never ordered from them.
Also - check the business' return and refund policy. I was totally dissatisfied and there was no refund but there are other places that will make you a custom dress and still offer a refund if you are not pleased!

My story does have a happy ending though! I found a Nataya wedding dress on sale for an excellent price that is actually much closer to what I originally wanted. Fits me way better than the custom-made dress and is much more comfortable too.

The moral of this story - do not believe everything you readm and take a little time to investigate BEFORE ordering!

does anyone know about the dress on the top row in the middle? any help would be great, i'd love to try this one on! please email me... mallorys@hawaii.edu

  25. maryam says:

pleas send me a beautiful dress all month thanks

  26. kim says:

Seriously, i just google-searched images of wedding dresses and almost every time, the most beautiful ones led me to davids website. I am about to run out of time for choosing my wedding dress, but I am just so in love with many of them, I don't know what to pick! Way better than when I first began shopping and was looking at a bunch of "ok" dresses and trying to choose from there. Not to mention, how many times in life do you get the best item for the best price?

  27. elegant says:

Nice post. I was checking continuesly this educational blog and I am impressed! Very useful information specially the last part :) I care for such edu a lot. thank you. http://www.ihavewedding.com

  28. So I created a secondary blog off my first one, but I now want my secondary blog to be my personal or my main blog. So that as soon and I sign on the newer blog I made would be my default blog. If that makes any sense... Is there a way to do this?.
