Well ~~~ how many of you just got engaged? And who’s scouring the web and wedding magazines for your perfect wedding dress?
Seems like today might be a good day for us to post some lovely real brides and their lovely real wedding gowns!
To fuel the fire within … from Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book members’ features (past, present and future) ~

Many of you soon-to-be-brides have an idea of what you don’t want, but honestly, until you get out there and start trying on a variety of styles, don’t etch it in stone. Try one or two gowns that you think you won’t like … just because … who know, you might be pleasantly surprised.

So that was the good news. Here’s the bad news …
We’re not quite sure of the designers on all of the gowns … if you’d like more info, let us know and we’ll try to find out for you!
We’d also love to know … did you get engaged over the holidays? When ( and where?) is your wedding going to be???
... I know this is unrelated.... but am I the only one who cracked up at the 3rd Christopher Record pic? That mural is too funny, and the little creatures look like they're smiling up at the bride a la the animals in Cinderella. The gowns (and pics!) are all lovely. I just hope I'm not the only one who got a chuckle out of that...
To Amy T, haha I totally didn't notice that the first time, so funny. I love the lace dress by studiofoto, so romantic!
Yup - I did! My now-fiance proposed to be on December 14th in the middle of San Francisco's Union Square Holiday Ice Rink :D We have already done a lot of research for our wedding - it will be in Connecticut on May 15th, 2010.
I got engaged over the holidays! We are getting married June 19, 2010 in Southern Oregon, site to be determined. It's rather difficult because in our area, there aren't many places outside that have enough room for a big wedding and we want an outdoor venue!
Hi Mandy, I'm getting married in Southern Oregon this coming September. Not sure how big your wedding is but you should check out the Greensprings Inn in Ashland. There's lots of outdoor space and some indoor too, just in case : )
Beautiful dresses! I shoot weddings in Alberta, Canada and we had mostly strapless dresses the last two years, so it's so refreshing to see what else is out there!
What a great idea, love this post! Natalie's dress - the third photo, second row, second photo, is by Caroline Herrera. thanks! Congratulations all you newly engaged brides! Best of luck in all your planning, allyson magda photography
Wow.. so many choices in beautiful dresses. I got engaged on Christmas eve to my boyfriend of over 10 years (finally!). We're not sure when the day will be yet, but probably sometime in the summer of 201o, outside somewhere in Western/Central New York. :) As for the dress, I've been envisioning something lace and antique looking, but my mind is still open. One thing I've been considering is altering my mother's wedding dress. She got married in the 1980s, and you can tell by the style of the dress, but maybe a seamstress could work some magic? Has anyone else out there attempted this?
I'm engaged to be married this coming December, and I'm about to get my tonsils out, which I know will result in a big weight loss (I'm hoping to keep it off!). If I get fitted for a dress, but then have a major weight change, will most places alter the dress again?
Take their brilliant advice on trying on different styles of wedding dresses!! After looking at bridal magazines I went into the shop knowing what I wanted and changed my mind. I tried on completely different dress styles and found an amazing gown that I love and I never would have imagined that gown. Think of it as an adventure trying on different styles (straps, strapless, v-neck, sweatheart, train length, back etc). But remember...The dress chooses you! You'll know when it's right! Congrats!
I got engaged in South Africa on New Years Day!!! We are getting married in Ibiza, Spain in September this year...(we live between Cape Town and Ibiza) I love SMP by the way and I'm totally addicted! Thanks for all the inspiration!
we noticed that ' funny' in the image too, Amy T. :) Cathryn, congratulations on your engagement! Ibiza debe ser preciosa para una boda.. tenemos muchas ganas de fotografear en espania algun dia :) ~andrew+katrina~
Thank you for the much-needed inspiration! I got engaged on January 2nd on a cliff looking over the very cold Solway Firth, near my family's home in south-west Scotland. My fiance proposed with his great-grandmother's dainty little engagement ring - I love, love, love it and what it means. We are trying to decide between a wedding in London or Oxford (I am British) or Washington DC area (where he is from). Hopefully the wedding will be this summer! I love your blog - keep up the good work!
that gown in the StudioFoto image is to die for! Great post ladies!
Love all the inspiration! I've been a big SMP fan for a while now. I did get engaged over the holidays - my fiance proposed on December 12. I've been managing events for about six years now, so I had a lot of ideas about what I wanted, and we're actually going with a pretty short engagement - we're getting married in June in Delaware, planning an elegant wedding with lots of vintage touches.
I would love to know where the veil in the Christopher Record photos came from and the dress in the Studio Foto pics
Hi Kathleen, My dress is the Studio Foto pics is by Jim Helm. Tammy
I know this post is about gowns, but that twig arbor at the start is really wonderful!
Beautiful dresses...
I got engaged on Chritmas night! My fiance proposed after dinner on the beach in Cabo. Both of out families were there:) We plan on getting married in CABO April 17th, 2010. Can't wait!!!
I just got engaged too! My fiance and I met in Chicago 3 years ago after both of us finished the Peace Corps in different African countries. Then we both moved to Manhattan for graduate school. I finished my degree last May (he has one year left) and moved to Mali, West Africa for a fellowship. My fiance came to visit me a week ago, and we took a trip to Timbuktu and then to Benin, the country he did Peace Corps in. He proposed to me at the end of our trip in Benin on the ocean. We are planning a Spring/Summer 2010 wedding.
in Chicago, our hometown. We want it to be very hit and urban i a loft space but incorporate African elements to it.
and Polish traditions as well. Needless to say, it will be ecclectic.
Would anyone happen to know where the multi-coloured bridesmaid dresses in the first picture are from?
Alissa -- I've sent a note to the photographer with your question about the bridesmaids dresses. We posted the whole wedding from Meghan Sepe on January 16th. Just type in Meghan Sepe in the Archive Search box. We'll let you know if we get more info on those pretty dresses!
In response to Alissa's question: My bridesmaids dresses actually came from a variety of places. I gave each girl a color and they bought whatever dress they wanted in that color. I think the green, pink, and yellow ones are from JCrew. The orange one is from a vintage shop in Amsterdam...originally it was floor length, but she had it cut. The purple-ish one is from a boutique in Chapel Hill, NC. The blue one is from a department store, and the reddish pink one is also from a vintage store in Amsterdam. I think the girls liked doing it this way, because they could pick out a dress they would wear again, but also it saved me from having to pick out one dress/color that would look good on everyone (especially since one of my bridesmaids was 13). The hardest part was trying to find plain colored ties to match. I ended up getting them at tieguys.com ~ they have tons of shades of all colors.
Many models in our Chinese wedding, wedding dress has become a fashion, but we will wear in the wedding with our cheongsams with Chinese characteristics, you like it? I am a Chinese girl XianRui, I hope we could become friends, and friends interested in wedding industry can come to my blog, add to friends, do the exchange.
Does anyone know the designer of the dress under the studiophoto pics. I've been searching everywhere and can't find it. Please help! Thanks!
The dress in the Studio Foto pics is by Jim Hjelm. The entire wedding feature on SMP is HERE:http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/01/14/studio-foto/. (Or just type in Studio Foto into the Search Archives box)
