You guys are going to looooove this story from the girls at Hitched!
* * *
Contrary to popular belief, we rarely encounter “bridezillas” at Hitched… in fact, our brides are usually the complete opposite. We love our brides and always feel so honored to be a part of their special day – but there are some brides who we REALLY get to know because they do everything at Hitched (wedding gown, bridesmaids, invites, etc.) and we affectionately call those ladies FOH— Friends of Hitched.
One of our favorite FOH’s is Kimberly Joy Brown (now Moore J), who walked into our store for an appointment this past March and told us she needed a dress in two weeks (!). The Howard University med student went on to explain that she had just discovered she had breast cancer. Because she would be undergoing surgery, she wanted to bump up her Fall 2008 nuptials in order to have her dream wedding before she began treatment.
One small catch– she had no gown, no venue, and no photographer…. just a date in mind, and, of course, her wonderful groom, James! The Hitched team swung into action and started placing phone calls to some of our favorite vendors, all of whom were ready and willing to pull through in a pinch for Joy and James! While Joy happily chose the perfect gown and veil, a team of DC’s top wedding vendors were assembled to create Joy’s wedding vision. No one thought twice about making this wedding happen in just two short weeks.
We have to share some photos from the event— doesn’t it look like it took years to plan? Joy’s cherry blossom theme was perfect for springtime in the nation’s capitol. Check out the emotion that photographer Ralph Alswang captures in each photo… you can see why we love him so much!

It’s quite a rarity that we visit brides on their wedding day, but Hitched ladies Carin, her daughter Leia, and Lynette couldn’t resist stopping by to see the final outcome!

Joy’s bridesmaids wore adorable dresses from Simple Silhouettes in Strawberry Ice Silk Shantung. Simple Silhouettes is based in New York, and owner/designer Christina was able to have the dresses made and shipped in just a few days so the girls had time to get them altered before the big day.

We always loved Modern Trousseau for their beautifully unique use of lace. Now we love designer Callie Tien even more, because she created Joy’s stunning custom gown, matching bolero, and cathedral length veil in record time!

The folks at the Fairmont (a gorgeous hotel right in the heart of DC) really took care of Joy and James. Alice and Bob pulled the whole event together with total professionalism and the results were incredible.

We’re so glad to end our story on a happy note– Joy is doing well and her surgery went smoothly. She’s enjoying being married to “the love of her life”, James, who’s been so supportive throughout the past year. We still hear from Joy and think of her often…she will forever be a Friend of Hitched.
Thank You, thank you, thank you to the girls at Hitched Salon for sharing this amazing story with us! And for spending the day talking shop on SMP!!

Hey Abby-
I don't know if I'm the only person experiencing this problem, but I thought I'd let you know. I read my blogs through an RSS reader and normally do not have any problems viewing the entry. Today, however, I came in and found all of your entries as just one or two lines of text and no images.
For example, this entry reads: You guys are going to looooove this story from the girls at Hitched! * * * Contrary to popular belief, we rarely encounter “bridezillas” at Hitched… in fact, our brides are usually the complete opposite. And thats it. Thoughts?
What an amazing story! Thanks for sharing. It's stories like this that bring you back to earth after you get caught up in the details of planning.
That's how it shows up on my reader too. Sorry I have no idea why it's doing that but at least it's not just you!
Lyndsay
Me too!
They have it deliberatly set up that way so you have to go to the blog, then they get more clicks, and can accurately count how many people read their blog. I do it for my blog too. :)
Yep, Heather is right! We are just looking to get a more accurate sense of where our traffic is. Not sure if we are going to keep it this way or not, just playing around with different ideas. Shoot me an email if you have a strong opinion one way or another:) Thanks!!

The other problem is that we have discovered four or five blogs that are blatantly stealing our content through our rss feeder. We are trying to figure out a way to stop this, and the snippets might be our only option...we'll keep y'all posted!
I love this story!! From the opening I thought it was going to be about a crazy B*zilla! Way to go Hitched! Those pictures show a beautiful wedding and a VERY happy bride.
Side note to Abby: Pretty Pretty Please put it back to the full story on the RSS!! I don't know about others but I am less likely to click and read with only that snippet. Its silly, I know, but I use my google reader so I can stalk a bunch of blogs in one place; streamlined.
I'm having the same problem with my google reader!! I'm not getting full entries and the whole point of me subscribing to the feed is so I don't have to click on each individual blog/entry.
You know, I was in a completely bitchy mood about wedding stuff tonight, and I just read this and cried and smiled and now feel like the luckiest person in the world. This is such a beautiful story - thank you so much for sharing it!
this is such a great story. i don't so much mind the google reader issue. i subscribe to other blogs that i have to click into to read. you have to open it in another window to comment anyway and we all love to comment!!! :)
Aww what a great story! Her wedding was just beautiful. I wish her all the best with her treatment!
I suppose that makes sense, getting more clicks and all. But I read too many blogs a day to have to deal with that. I guess I'll just stop reading.
What a great story and a beautiful wedding!
I'm another visitor who usually reads through the RSS feed. I guess I can give you some actual hits. ;-)
spectacular job ladies...looks like it took months to plan. a smile can not tell a lie and that bride looks like you made that smile happen (the husband always has a little to do with it as well)! lol!
I am happy to be the proud mother-in-law of this fantastic bride. As I told Joy and James, this wedding, without a doubt, was the most beautiful wedding that I have ever attended. And to think that it was pulled off in two weeks is almost unbelievable. I am honored to welcome Joy into our family and I pray that God will watch over her, keep her strong and will heal her.
That was a beautiful story. I was quite touched and I will keep her health and happiness in my prayers.
Love & Soul Always, Kay
We want to thank the girls at Hitched and Joy for allowing us to be part of this wedding. We truly felt honored that Joy wanted to wear one of gowns on her special day.
