Our next reader inspiration board was designed by Angie, who is also looking for a bit of help…

She was hoping to get some advice as to what flowers would be appropriate for this pretty, feminine affair which will be held next April. Any thoughts?

I see ivories and whites, definitely something romantic. Maybe white lilacs, gardenias, peonies (I think will be in season), maybe in urns rather than traditional vases?

  2. Michele says:

I would rec. white or ivory roses, green hydrangeas and incorporate some light lavender (or violets!) small petal flowers...

  3. Kelly Oshiro says:

There is nothing as pretty and effortlessly chic as a silver mint julep vase filled with a bunch of white hydrangeas.

  4. mjc says:

white tulips mixed with the texture of white peonies along with some greenery

  5. For something unique and elegant leafy cabbage, kale if you can't find the ivory/green cabbage, with white and ivory garden roses would be beautiful. Then for some texture add some whispy feathers and chandelier crystals.

  6. Roberta Menconi says:

    Blue hydrangeas would be lovely!

  7. Katie says:

Peonies and English Garden roses. Not only are they elegant, but they are in season! Best of luck!

  8. How about white lilies and white roses, and/or perhaps jasmine. (Either lilies or jasmine would be very fragrant). I love Alicia's ideas, too. Sounds so hip and stylish.

BTW - your inspiration board is so beautiful and elegant! And your dress is absolutely gorgeous. Where did you find it? So beautiful.

  9. I would also have to agree with Roberta that blue hydrangeas would be fabulous!

  10. It's always fun to see local flowers for example dogwood in North Carolina. Hydrangea would be soft and pretty, in a shade similar to the bridesmaid dress. Lovely board!

  11. Holly says:

Bridal bouquet - mix of peonies and cabbage(garden)roses, and some french lacy tulips.

Bridesmaids - blue/white hydrangeas, maybe with some curly willow to bring out the brown.

These are my wedding colors, too! Best of luck with the wedding.

  12. Karen says:

Tulips, peonies and hydrangea would be beautiful. I'd also consider lily of the valley for bouquets/boutonnieres.

Angie -- could you please tell me where you found the photo of the chignon and hair accessory? It is exactly what I'm planning to do with my hair. :)

  13. L says:

definately something soft and romantic. Your dress is AMAZING!
Can not wait to see photos of the day. Best of luck.

  14. I did a tabletop shoot VERY similar to this color scheme... tell her to go HERE for the perfect centerpiece compliment [if I don't say so myself...]

/> I LOVE it all paired together! Would die to see that event come to life!

  15. Vanessa says:

I think calla lilies and stargazer lilies mixed in with some fluffy hydrangeas or peonies would be just the right amount of sophistication and femininity to go along with the rest of the look. Can I just say I loveee the light blue and gold.

  16. Paula says:

I agree - hydrangeas would be beautiful. I used blue hydrangeas in my bouquet. My hair-do was similiar to that picture - I absolutely loved it! I used fresh freesias in my hair.

  17. Ashley Gillette says:

I said "I Do" on April 5, 2008 in Charleston, SC. When it comes to flower selection and availability, April is the perfect time of year! There are only two things that you have to worry about...

    1) Your budget (ie - roses vs peonies)
    2) The climate of your location (ie - a hot/humid location might ruin delicate flowers like tulips or peonies and vice versa)

But here are a few of my favorites :)

White &/or Ivory - Rose, Casablanca Lily, Allium, Bouvardia, Calla Lily, Phalaenopsis Orchid, Ranunculus, Star of Bethlehem, Stephanotis, Tulip, Lisianthus, Peonies

Blue - Delphinium, Hydrangea, Sweet Pea, Hyacinth, Iris, Lavender, Blue Forget-Me-Nots, Bluebonnets, Bachelor Button

Green - Cockscomb, Fuji Mum, Hydrangea, Viburnum, Queen Anne's Lace, Hanging Amaranthus, Jade Rose, Bells of Ireland, Hypericum Berry, Cymbidium Orchid

Brown - Monkey Tail, Curly Willow, Rose, Chocolate Cosmos

    Best Wishes!!!

I see your bouquet with an assortment of Gardenias and touches of sweetpeas, light pink ribbon with a vintage brooch of your guy's picture. On the tables, go for different, try centerpieces of mixes of camellias, delphinium, & stephatotis. They would look beautiful...then maybe in the vases, pink lights for the effect. Everything always needs a pop of color, think light pink would be beautiful for you.

  19. Brandi says:

I think peonies are perfect but they can be a bit pricey. Ranunculas (sp?) are a great alternative to roses and they are very romantic. I could also see anemones (they can look very dramatic while still being soft) and dalhias too. Dalhias can be great because they have so many petals and even look a bit lacy. They are also big so they can take up a lot of space for just one flower.

  20. Anna says:

I may be way off base, but I immediately thought of France. The blue and ivory, the fleur di lis - like flourishes on the cake, the sweet girly touches everywhere. I could see using Magnolias and going a New Orleans route. Or wildflowers of Provence. Just trying to think outside the box : )
    hope that inspires.

  21. Anna says:

I think 'delicate' is the keyword here. Something vine-y and trailing would work beautifully in this style, such as sweet peas and delphiniums. France and the 'fleur de lis' come to mind too. Why not some Irises? One per bridesmaid?

  22. kristine says:

Peonies are definitely pretty and feminine. Maybe pairing them with blue hydrangeas. I also love white petite calla lilies.
