How to Choose the Perfect Venue

As you know, picking a reception location is one of the biggest decisions you will have to make; the venue sets the tone and theme. Just like the wedding specialists at Blue Plate can guide you to a venue that perfectly complements your needs and desires, you should always check with your vendors to see what their favorite venues are…

For instance, one of the wedding consultants from Blue Plate recently guided a bride and groom through an array of venue choices, ranging from intimate gardens, historic museums, grand ballrooms, and iconic restaurant locations.

What is the location of the second photo? It's gorgeous!

Those first two venues are incredible. If you are looking for a venue in Charleston, SC, I reccomend the Society Hall. It has an elegant grand ballroom but it's half the cost of Hibernian Hall.

That is the Chicago History Museum. We were married there in May or this year. It was the perfect location. Our rep there was excellent. Not one glitch. We choose looked into Blue Plate and Food For Thought. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Our rep was always available and so helpful.

If anyone is looking in the Hudson Valley, NY area I would recommend The Full Moon Resort in the Catskill Mountains. Their website isn't that upscale, but the views are amazing. www.fullmoonresort.com This is a place for a couple looking to have a more rustic mountain setting. You can get married in a streamside field, and they also have a rennovated barn you can use for your reception. They also have their own bar/lounge you can rent for the after party so people dont have to drive. There's also the Grandview in Poughkeepsie. As a vendor, it is one of my favorite places to work. Its beautiful, clean, the staff is cordial, and the food is amazing. It's also right on the Hudson River so everyone can "oohh" and "ahh" over the view. www.grandviewevents.com I believe their packages begin at $8,000 for a weekday wedding.

In Santa Barbara I really like: Rancho Dos Pueblos- private beach! Orella Ranch- crazy view of the ocean from a private ranch Rose Story Farms- a working rose farm with a craftsman house on the property La Pacifica Ballroom at the Four Seasons- super modern and about as close to the ocean as you can get in Santa Barbara

  7. Well, I am so glad you asked! I currently living in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and my favorite location for a reception venue is the Carolina Inn. The Carolina Inn is the perfect spot for an elegant Southern Wedding with a killer ballroom. But, I also lived in Cincinnati, Ohio and my favorite Cincy style wedding is renting a riverboat on the Ohio River. So classy and fun - how many of your guests can say they have ever been on a river boat before?

Any ideas for a low to moderate venue in the Northern Virginia/DC area?
