Real Wedding by Doug Mcgoldrick
Since same-sex weddings are becoming more and more mainstream, I thought that I would share a few of my favorites today. One of our little black book photographers, Doug McGoldrick, sent me this gorgeous wedding and the cake alone was enough to send me over the edge…
I looooove the discs that are hanging from the ceiling…they add a modern sensibility to the affair. I also think that the huge banquets style tables with the tall centerpieces lining the center are just gorgeous. Dramatic, but in a tailored and sophisticated way. Here are a few more pics…
Doug McGoldrick is an incredible photographer and if you aren’t already familiar with his work, definitely check out his website. It has tons of gorgeous eye candy that can serve as inspiration for so many types of affairs.

Thank you for including a same-sex couple on your blog! Those muppet cards are too cute.

Same-sex wedding will definitely bring a new aesthetics to the wedding industry. It will accentuate the trend towards a more gender-neutral wedding design. This is great news for everyone.
I think these changes are well overdue. I am so tired of seeing the Chiavari Chairs at every wedding but there is nothing else out there if you want a chair that looks refined. The folding chairs fit well here because of the communal table. But the typical round / square table plan requires a more stylish chair.

One of my favorite weddings of all time! What a beautiful event–it’s the picture of sophistication. I second the applause for the Muppet cards–pure genius.
Comment by Teri on 26 June 2008:
I always love a well-styled wedding between two men. It’s so easy for femininity to take over wedding style, and more masculine options are almost always innovative because of this.
Plus, how precious are those cotton balls at an otherwise tailored and sleek wedding? It’s a nice unexpected element- soft, but not girly.

Thank you for including this wedding! I hope more “bridal” blogs and other services that we all read religiously will start being more inclusive towards gay and lesbian couples. I myself have 3 gay weddings to attend in California this summer, and as I point my gay friends to all my wedding resources, I am proud when some of them (like this one!) are becoming more inclusive. Also, this wedding is fabulous!!

It’s in Chicago…Hyde Park area. Sadly, it’s a private venue:(

Any info on how they made the CD decorations that hung from the ceiling?
Comment by doug mcgoldrick on 26 June 2008:
they actually made the cd decorations themselves. It’s fishing line strung up to a wooden structure on top. the key is the little center widgets they used to secure the disks. they are small foam circles they found which just happened to fit perfectly in the disks. the line is threaded through the foam disks providing just enough grip to keep it from moving around (disks are pretty light). They where up working it until around 2am the night before the weddings.

I guess I wonder why we even need to distinguish a wedding as “same sex”. Why isn’t a wedding just a wedding, a celebration of a union of two lives. I don’t think it’s any different.
Comment by reader on 27 June 2008:
I agree with Kim (6/26)– a wedding is a wedding is a wedding ! Jack and Jill, Jim and John, Jane and Joan–what does it matter ? That being said, I appreciate that you embrace all types of unions. I’ve only seen this is in a few magazines out of NYC. There is probably more out there but that is the market I know. You have a nation-wide and world-wide reach so good for you !
Comment by abby larson on 27 June 2008:
Couldn’t agree more…a wedding is a wedding is a wedding. There is no need for me to even distinguish between them!
