We're having and evening wedding and my bridesmaids, mother & MIL are all wearing long dresses but we want guests to come in pretty dresses long or short and guys to come in suits rather than black-tie. My cousin still does hair (she works at a high end salon on newbury a few days during the week, then does weddings on weekends). As for securing the veil…I think that it was tucked towards the center of my head into the bun. The bun was somewhat large so it didn’t look funny at all.
