A bit more from Melinda…
Once I had my dress and the colors picked out, the rest was easy! I used a color palette of black and linen for the rest of the décor. The final inspiration for the rest of the wedding came from a piece of fabric called Waverly Damask (see picture). As I was on a budget, and I did not want to interfere with the natural environment of the location too much, I decided to buy a bolt of the fabric off eBay and have them made into tablecloths for the reception. The venue and the winery were so naturally beautiful, and full of hidden details, that putting pink or bright colors into the space would have been jarring, but the black and white damask pattern still made an important impact. I used lanterns that we found at a discount store for our centerpieces, and black chargers from Michael’s to add an extra splash of black under the white dinner plates.
I did much of the same type of planning for the ceremony decoration – the view from the outdoor deck was stunning – mountain vistas and rolling plains – so I did not want a lot of interference with it. I chose to buy two blue and purple hydrangea plants (not flowers, but actual plants) and plopped them into the urns at the end of the aisle. The bridesmaids all carried blue and purple hydrangea blooms, and I carried the same hydrangeas with pearled white flowers. The groomsmen all wore hydrangea flowers with greenery. Again, hydrangeas in September were inexpensive, and we just went to Home Depot for the hydrangea plants. Cheap!
More to come!
Where did you find that fabulous cake topper!?
Hi Sarah! The cake topper was my mom & dad's from their wedding in the 1970's. But if you are looking for similar styles - I'd check out eBay under "vintage cake topper", etc.
MELINDA! If your reading this, I LOVE your look and want to do a similar thing with my tables, only with a bit of a retro print. I was wondering if you wanted to sell your chargers to me as they look absolutely wonderful!
I was wondering if you are willing to sell the damask tablecloths?
Melinda, I figured you were going to say that! My parents, unfortunately, had flowers on the top of their cake. Maybe we'll just have to canvas the rest of the family!
Melinda! What a beautiful wedding! I have a question regarding your bouquets. I too, am having hydrangeas in my wedding and am intending on having just hydrangeas as bouquets. How many stems did you use in a single bouquet for your bridesmaids? Thanks!
Melinda, you were such a gorgeous bride! The wedding looks beautiful. And your best lady must have been such a trooper to come all the way with her 9 month old twins from Europe. Just a testament to what a great friend you are :-)
Gorgeous! Would love to know the name of that pattern made by Waverly ... is it just called "Damask?"
Ashley - I think I still have a big box of them. Go ahead and email me at melin28@gmail.com and we can talk about my selling them to you! I, too, LOVED doing the tablecloths - it fit my personality.
Nina - I believe my florist used 3 or 4 per bouquet, but I'm not certain. I can contact her and check. Also, we used small bouquets for the moms, and pin-on corsages for the grandmothers. If you want to see more pictures, just shoot me an email. (listed above).
Hi Esperanza - I am so flattered that you like the tablecloths! Thank you so much! Unfortunately, they are not for sale, as I am having them made into a quilt with our wedding date embroidered at the bottom. But, the pattern is called Waverly Essence Damask and it is black and linen (not white). Hi Ellen! It is called Waverly Essence Damask. You can find it on eBay, usually, at the best price. (It is very similar to the Target bedding they are selling these days - also by Waverly, if you want to see an example in person). Thanks for checking it out!
I just shot a wedding this weekend and they had the exact same cake topper. How crazy is that? Click on my name to see the post on my blog. Too funny. Beautiful decorating job, by the way. Very much my style (whenever that day finally arrives).
So beautiful! I love all of that Damask!
Amy - Wow! I loved having my parent's cake topper. Pretty cool seeing a similar one out there!
Melissa - Thank you so much! I should be sick of damask by now, but I still love it.
Hi -
I was wondering where you got the guys silver ties? I just love them!
Hi Jaylyn - we bought the ties at Macys! They were Kenneth Cole Reaction. I alternated between the one pictured, and silver and black paisley tie. I hope this helps!
Can someone please tell me how to post or submit my own inspiration board? I know it sounds crazy, but I can not find an email address for style me pretty! Please help! Thank you!
Hi Melinda,
I love you choices. This is very similiar to what I had envisioned for my wedding. But still debating making my own linens or renting. May I ask how many tables you had and in turn how much fabric you had to buy?
Thanks!
That cake looks great, did you get the wedding cake topper from my site? Just wondering it looks like one of the ones I offer.
Melinda, I don't know if you still check this site, but I was wondering where you found the black lanterns. They are exactly what I'm looking for and I'm having a hard time finding them in bulk. Thanks!
