Wedding Color Palette

Our second color palette dilemma for the day is from Natalie, who is looking to have a green and yellow inspired wedding. Here is her question…

“I’m planning an eco-friendly wedding in June and I’d really like to play up thec olors green and yellow. I was thinking of a grass green or apple green, and a yellow to correspond. Do you think a softer yellow would be best? My fiance and I want a young, fresh feeling to our event.”

Well, I think that first and foremost, the focus should be on a fresh, clean palette…like Natalie said, one that is young and lighthearted…I love the green tomatoes paired with a perfect true yellow. It’s bright, it’s clean, it’s fun.

You can really take this palette in any direction, which is nice. If you want to go a bit edgy and chic, think about pairing tone on tone flowers with the bridesmaid dress…a bundle of yellow flowers against a yellow dress is unexpected. For a loft or other contemporary venue, try using monochromatic shades of flowers, placed in square or rectangle vases. Each arrangement can be the same and repeated over and over throughout the tables.

If you want to go a bit more organic, try using heaping bowls of green tomatoes if they are in season, tons of candles in various sized jelly jars, huge containers of brightly colored lemonade, etc.

Bottom line…a single color palette can really be translated in so many different ways, depending on your own personal style and personality. We have another palette coming later today, so stay tuned!

Abby I love your site! I'm a student interested in event planning and this blog is so inspiring! Everything is lovely and has a fresh take on staple concepts. That yellow dress is so fun! Where is it from?

you might want to use lemons or limes to line the vases... although I have heard that you should be careful about fruit flies if you go that route... I think it looks really fresh and inviting! J.Crew has their beach embossed dress in a really pretty yellow- might be a good thought for bridesmaids!

  3. Oh I love this board! I was going to suggest filling vases with lemon and limes or green apples as well! If you fill the vases with water in addition you shouldn't have to worry about the flies. Love this board!

I just came across your site a few days ago. It is very inspiring! For this color board I would use a yellow/pineapple quartz and freshwater pearls for the jewelry- they would make a perfect match with yellow bridesmaids dresses. Very subtle in color, but a perfect finishing touch. -Smiles!

I adore this palette. It reminds me of the South in the summer. It's refreshing and sweet...like home.

I just love these refreshing colors! It reminded me of a garden tea party I recently attended where they gave out party favors in these bright yellow favor boxes -- they were so pretty and helped to create the "garden" ambiance the host was shooting for. The boxes were from
