It has been so long since I’ve created an inspiration board for a reader! I have been getting such beautiful work from readers, from inspiration boards to real weddings like the one featured yesterday…and it’s so much fun for me to show off YOUR creativity. With that said, I’ve been getting lots and lots of requests.
This inspiration board was designed for a bride who was looking for a Rustic, but Feminine Affair…
“We are having our wedding at a little spot in Southern California in early December of next year. I love the soft feminine colors of pale blue and light green, but want to make sure that the overall look isn’t cheesy. Since the wedding will be outdoors on a small lawn and the reception will be indoors under a rustic barn, I want to make sure the two locations flow nicely in terms of style. I am a pretty simple girl…and I want the wedding to reflect that. Pretty, but not overly done. Rustic, but not country. Elegant and simple. Can you help?!”
Here is what I have come up with for this wedding….
Top Row: Gown by J Crew, Flowers by Fino Fresh Floral Designs, Gown by Chloe at Saks / Center Row: Birch tubes by Small Stump, Chocolate Cakes by Martha Stewart, Birch touches by Michelle Rago / Bottom Row: Apples by Petal Pushers, Cupcakes by Cupcake Mama, Flowers by Botanica
I have to say, I really love this board…I love the combination of colors. The soft grey/blue paired with the greens, creams and touches of chocolate. I think that this might be my new favorite palette (although I think that I say that about once a week). I am still madly in love with the birch touches…which bring in a rustic quality, without being too country. I’m not sure those birch details will ever get old for me. I also love the idea of incorporating a velvety chocolate into the mix. It brings a tactile quality, adding a sense of richness.
What do you guys think? Would you do anything differently?

absolutely love it!
I think a few pale blue hydrangeas added to the bouquet would pull it together nicely. Other than that, I think its perfect!
Great inspiration board, and that's exactly the vibe and color palette we're going for in our own wedding (I'm thinking of adding accents of raspberry pink to add some punches of color, what do you think?)
Good work!
This is one of my favorites ever on this site (which you know is saying a lot ...) Hard to pull off chic & rustic, but so many darling ideas here.
I'm loving the color palette of this wedding theme. Very very nice.
I ADORE the chocolate cake from the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings - so simple, classic and beautiful!
I was so excited to see this inspiration board! I, too am going for rustic elegance with blue and green as focal colors. I love the spiral ferns in the bouquet, and those chocolate cakes look divine. This board was so soft and pretty, but it seems to be heavily weighted in green.
[Kena, I think punches of pink would look great! I'm thinking of adding very subtle hints of mango orange.]
Thanks for putting this together!!
I love this! I've been dreading the fact that my wedding might be in December because I'm a summer person and I don't like red, but this palette is exactly the inspiration I've been needing. I love green and have been dying to use birch or wood in some way. Thanks!
Bringing in the browns is a must do to the time of year. How about some pinecones to accent the brown in the pallete as well as highlight the winter season? Though I love the crips color of the apples, they more remind me of fall than accentuate winter. Also, the use of liquid cardboard (cardboarddesign.com for inspiration) could be a great touch too! Way to go!
The questioner is describing the exact kind of venue I'm looking for. Anybody know where the wedding will be?
I'm also searching for a rustic/barn/ranch location in So Cal for a wedding. If anyone has information on venue mentioned above, or any others, please post!
