I wanted to take this morning to tell you about a few things that are happening in the wedding world that I am finding really inspiring…

First, Rebecca over at White Aisle, recently launched an absolutely beautiful new silk product line…handmade flowers, sashes and ring pillows that have been sewn by Cambodian girls using the finest local silks. Rebecca’s wonderful new project allows girls and young women to leave their otherwise unimaginable jobs, earn a salary each day with the option of living next door in group housing…and ultimately, reintegrate themselves into society with a strong vocational skill.

I have fallen head over heals in love with those gorgeous silk flowers. I am going to order some of them and make a pillow for my home. Lovely! They would also be gorgeous tucked neatly into a loose bun for your wedding, or sewn onto your table linens. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. 100% of profits go back to the girls that are making the products.

Secondly, Charity Buzz is holding an auction to benefit the New York Cares Organization. Justin Lawrence, Inside Weddings, and Destination Bride donated a package that includes “a five hour consultation with renown wedding planner Lisa Light of Destination Bride, a copy of “Destination Bride, A Complete Guide to Planning Your Wedding Anywhere”, a one-year subscription to Inside Weddings magazine, and wedding day make-up by high-fashion, high-society make-up artist and beauty consultant, Justin Lawrence.” Each year, New York Cares enables 33,000 caring New Yorkers to volunteer at social service agencies, homeless shelters, public schools, and other deserving organizations.

And finally, I just wanted to send a reminder to everyone to start working on your Do-It-Yourself entries…we really want to see a huge array of DIY projects that every bride can do. Although we love seeing those done by skilled crafters or designers, we are also really excited to see projects that are approachable and real. Thanks so much to everyone whose entered thus far…I can’t wait to share the ideas with you guys!
