Real Wedding Inspiration Board

November 19th. 2007 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 8 comments

Another inspiration board for you to devour! This one from a real wedding done by reader and recent bride, Danielle, that in my opinion, is completely and absolutely beautiful. I kind of think that my new favorite color is lime green, thanks to this gorgeous board!

Danielle and her fiance were high school sweethearts (how cute is that) and being recent college grads, they wanted their wedding to be beautiful, but also affordable. She is a graphic designer at Bennett Schneider in Kansas city, a brilliant little stationery shop that you should definitely check out.

Danielle and her fiance had two goals for the day…they wanted a celebration that included their closest family and friends and they simply wanted to enjoy the day, to have fun and to throw one great party. Looks like it was mission accomplished!

Danielle is stopping by the comments section to answer some of our questions! I am dying to know if she designed all of her own stationery. And who made those completely adorable flower girl dresses. And, who designed their flowers…love, love, love the limes in the vases!!

I just want to thank Abby for graciously posting some of the pictures from our wedding day. Here are some great details about our wedding:

Being from a small town (population 2800) I had to be really creative when finding people to help with all the aspects of the wedding. Naturally being a graphic designer, I designed all the paper items: invitations, programs, labels for our popcorn/candy buffet, and other small signs that were placed throughout the church and reception hall. The flower girl dresses were done by a family friend that is an amazing seamstress. The bouquets were done by a friend of my grandmothers. The vases with limes and hydrangea were done by my mother, grandmother, and myself. The cake was done by a friend of my husband's family. Our wonderful photographer, www.tjstudios.com, I found by searching the web. Also, this was my hometown, not where I live now. So most of these plans were made by making trips home and lots and lots of phone calls.

My advice: it is really easy to get lost in all the hoop-la that comes with planning and designing a wedding. Do what feels right to you. Make the day about you and your future husband. If you as a couple love food: serve really great food. If you enjoy dancing, hire a great band or dj. There were compromises that we made along the way and minor problems on the day of the wedding. But these things will always happen. No one else will notice except You! Enjoy the day. Set aside extra time to spend with just your man (whether that is for pictures or just to squeeze in some alone time). And my last advice: Smile at all times, because you never know who is taking your picture!

Thank you to Abby and everyone who reads this. Check out my blog at: http://midwestmoderngirl.typepad.com/ ." rel="nofollow">http://midwestmoderngirl.typepad.com/. />

Holy cow danielle! I read this blog almost every day and I am so exciting to see your wedding on here. I was a bridesmaid and this wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and so was the bride! :) I loved, loved the colors and it really shows how some inexpensive DIY can look really beautiful.

Your shoes are lovely, any tips on good places to find them?

  4. Danielle says:

Linda- I did a lot of research on shoes. 2 weeks before the wedding I decided to go to Dillards to buy a pair that I had been lusting over, and when I got there I actually found the perfect pair (the ones I wore) on clearance. They were pointed toe and had some really nice detailing, which were both things that I was looking for. So I got a great deal. I would recommend just keeping your eyes open when you're walking through stores. And don't necessarily look at "Bridal" shoes. Buy something that you love. I almost bought a pair of bright purple Guess shoes (which still would have been great) but decided against it at the last minute.
