Gotta love writing advice from Dear Abby herself:) It seems like Wedding Invitation Etiquette is a big issue on bride's minds.I know we get a lot of inquiries about it as well. So I thought I would post the article I wrote on the subject, with some special Bridezilla style thrown in ;) http://www.bridezilla.com/2007/09/how_to_write_a_brilliant_bride.cfm

Thryn-As far as $$$ gift thank-you's, be honest:) Mention something you & hubby have been saving for. "Thank you so much for your generous gift. [Hubby] and I have been eyeing a gorgeous dining room set that we saw a few months ago." (or something to that effect)

I agree about how important it is to mention the specific gift you received. It actually helped me figure out who gave me something that came without the name attached when I didn't mention that gift on the thank you card I sent to the giver (for the other gifts he gave me). One thing though...what do I write when the person gave us cash or a check? I have been writing "thank you for your generous gift" because It sounded weird to say thank you for the money.

Also, my *new* husband and I are definitely splitting writing the thank you cards 50/50, although he is a bit behind on his list :)

MeganRuth...I think the postcard idea is adorable. As long it reflects your personality and the tone of your wedding, I think that it's a great idea!

Couple of things:Try to coerce your new hubby to pitch in... I think his Aunt Ethel or best friend from college would love to get a handwritten note from him (and you, of course!). Also, if you're writing to someone who attended the wedding, be sure and say, 'we loved that you could be with us...' (to me it signifies that you appreciate the gift, but their presence was the best present). And, finally,I agree that the pen can make all the difference in the world! Go to an art supply store and try a few out. Even the fine tip (inexpensive) calligraphy pens can make the worst handwriting look great.
