I couldn’t wait to tell you guys about Janie Medley Flora Designs…an oh-so-fabulous florist out of the DC/Virginia area. Janie emailed me with new pics of some of her gorgeous designs and I have to say, they are stunning. And even more incredible than her flowers…she has only been in business for, get this…two years. Just goes to show that true passion and creativity are really what you need to produce great work.

I'm so excited that you posted on a vendor in my area. Now if I only had a wedding to plan for. ;) Perhaps in the near future...
Thanks for sharing. Beautiful.
So glad you posted about florists. (I did recently as well.) Ever since we started planning our wedding, I have been enamoured with the idea of floral design...how it's done, who is doing it and so on. I'm curious to know how one becomes a florist. Even more curious to know what to look for when choosing one. Any advise?
You know, for me, finding a florist meant finding someone whose aethetic reflected my own. A florist does so much more than simply arranging colors and textures...they literally create the style and ambiance for your space. When I first met with my florist, I said to her "if my wedding was like a living room, it would be an old tufted sofa, with sequined throw pillows." She responded by saying "if my wedding was like a room, it would be a vintage steel table with a crystal chandelier hanging above." We just got each other.
So my advice is to first start with a budget. Although we all want the Collin Cowie's of the world to design our flowers, chances are, our budget will really define the florist that we choose. Next, do you field research. My florist's shop screamed perfection to me...and it helped me to understand how she would interpret what I wanted and envisioned. And finally, ask around...make absolute sure that the florist you choose is liked and is easy to work with.
I have worked with Janie, her work is spectacular!
That slideshow with the florist's pics is AMAZING, that photog should be featured! She rocks.
