HouseMartin and Ink & Peat

My best friend, Katie, is obsessed with the HouseMartin blog. She is always emailing me various arrangements and home decor ideas that the writer features…and sure enough, I too, have become completely hooked. Her work is so incredibly inspiring, filled with such beautiful colors and textures. Not to mention, brilliant ideas for wedding decor.

So, after hours of mindless blog reading, I discovered that the writer is opening a retail store in the coming months. In the meantime, she is doing floral design through her company Ink &  Peat. The site is absolutely GORGEOUS and has some incredible ideas for wedding colors and floral decor. And, when you get all flowered out, check out her posts on antiquing…does it really get any better than this?

Hey Abby, as always your taste is impeccable. These floral arrangements are absolutely gorgeous! It was so wonderful meeting you yesterday at Javis. The AbbyJean line looked fantastic. Wedding invitation, floral arrangments, china pattern...can't wait 'till my boyfriend pops the question. Stop by www.toastandtables.blogspot.com and check out my post today, you'll love it!

I love the pinks and oranges in the second set of photos. Do you think those could be used in a way that would make them more black-tie appropriate and less tropical looking? My wedding is next Memorial Day weekend, and I'm looking into how to incorporate bright color without making it look too much like a luau or garden party. We're planning a very fancy affair. Thanks!

I don't mean to brag ;) but I feel so lucky that Pam of Ink and Peat is actually doing the floral arrangements for my wedding in September! She has been so helpful and amazing to work with and her personal style is so unique. I can't wait until her store opens!

  5. Thank to you I went to have a look at HouseMartin floral creations. Wow! Your friend Katie is right; you can develop an obsession.

  6. A comment to PJ's post:
Thought I would pass on some things I am doing for one of my bride's who is using the bright pinks and oranges for a very elegant affair. To keep it from looking too tropical or rustic you can 1. Do not use greenery, stick with the bright florals only. 2. Do not use fruit, berries or pods. 3. Use matching colored satin ribbon, containers, and trim.

ink & peat popping over to say hi!
In response to PJ - one way to make hot pink and orange flowers look less tropical is to use a modern container for guest tables - like this ceramic cube from Jamali Gardens- http://www.jamaligarden.com/pID_16970.asp " rel="nofollow">http://www.jamaligarden.com/pID_16970.asp >
Another idea is to break it up with white - like using ornithogolum which are white with black centers. Or add a larger-headed flower like a bold dahlia. Matte grosgrain ribbon can give the bridal bouquet a preppy feel.
    Good luck!

I have been looking for the name of that "berry"-like thing found in the second row of pictures. I have an old dried arrangement with them in it and absolutely love the texture it adds to a bouquet. They are almost like a billy ball, but greenish pink. I am looking to include it in my wedding bouquets, but have asked numerous florists and no one seems to be able to identify it. Does anybody know what they are called?
