I've seen some pretty upscale caterers pour some pretty cheap bubbly for the guests. For my money, Freixenet is a great value.

Personally, I love the celebration that comes from drinking champagne at a wedding. It really does MAKE a party. My tip is always to aim for something a bit sweeter, rather than dry, as the majority of your guests won't drink a lot of it (hence the toasting) but sweet seems to be more palatable to most.

Quick note: Bouvet is produced in the Loire Valley, outside of the Champagne region in France, and is thus not Champagne. It is a sparkling wine. Just FYI. It is truly delicious!

I am getting married next spring and was directed to this site by a friend... granted I am not the most girly girl out there and I make my living in the wine business, but I just can't imagine spending $3.25 on a cookie and only $12 on the sparkling wine. This is arguably the center point of the wedding that ties everyone together (toasts abound!) It's a let down that wine is often the last thought. You don't have to spend $100 a bottle, but the real thing - meaning actual Champagne - is ceratinly a nice way to start off married life. If Champagne doesn't work into the budget, I think Prosecco or Cremant d'Alsace are better choices than Bouvet. BUT everyone has their owns splurges!!

Great to see you're back, Abby! Another great, inexpensive, bottle of bubbly (not technically champagne) is Westport Rivers Brut -- the vineyard is on the south shore, I think. It's delish!
