Wedding Inspiration by Miette

update…congrats to Kate for winning the blog design contest! I will have another design up this week and another chance to win!

I was perusing some of my favorite wedding cake sites over the weekend (trying to find the perfect cake for an upcoming inspiration board), when I discovered Miette’s online store. For those of you that don’t live in the San Francisco area, Miette is this insanely beautiful bakery that serves baked goods for anything and everything…from pretty candies to simple, perfect cakes.

Pretty Spring & Summer Colors

I get so many requests for help in choosing color palettes…it seems like so many soon-to-be’s have a hard time bringing colors together that work and that make sense aesthetically. For example, you may love orange and chocolate brown, but when brought together, you realize that they have a close resemblance to candy corn at Halloween.

So today, I wanted to start a series of posts that I am going to do on choosing color palettes for your wedding. I absolutely love the two that I have chosen for today and think that they are perfect for a Spring or Summer wedding .

I Love Vera, Lots and Lots of Vera

Yesterday I told you that I would post my favorite Vera Wang gowns for the 2007 season. Well, I seriously couldn’t choose. They are all GORGEOUS. Some are a lot more wearable than others, but they are all architecturally stunning. What struck me the most about this particular season, is the detail on each gown. Take a look…

2007 Gown Round-Up

Thank you all so much for your great feedback with the site design! It looks like design A is the clear winner so far! Next week, I am going to put A against a new design to see what you guys think. This round however, will end on Sunday, so don’t be shy about commenting.

One of my readers asked if I would do a little round-up of some of my favorite gowns for 2007….Um, of course!!! I still honestly believe that my wedding gown is the most beautiful gown ever in the history of wedding gowns, but I suppose there are some pretty ones out there this season. Just teasing. To me, a wedding gown is a lot like a child. Yours is always better.

Contest!!

I have a new obsession…my blog design. Although I love the simplicity of the current Style Me Pretty site, it just doesn’t seem like THE design. You know what I mean? So, I am going to enlist help from the people that care the most…the readers! Let’s face it, although my husband “reads” (ie…he opens the blog on his computer each day), he is the last person to care about how pretty it is.

So each week, I am going to give you two designs to choose from…think eye doctor style: Version A or Version B, version B or Version C. Hopefully, we will all settle on the perfect design within a few weeks!

Bluebird Studios

Rebecca, over at Bluebird Studios recently sent me some pictures of her gorgeous hand lettering pieces .

Personally, I think that calligraphy is one of those things that truly takes an invitation design to the next level. Really good calligraphy can make a pretty invitation spectacular, bringing in another element of design and beauty to the overall look. And yet, most people still think that calligraphy options are limited to that over-the-top, scripty-scrolly look that has been around for centuries. Not even close. The options are endless…from lettering styles, to ink colors, to illustration and monogramming, calligraphy can be used in so many unique and beautiful ways.

Potluck Studios

I have had so many inquiries about cake accessories…it seems to be a running dilemma among brides! As I was looking for some interesting ideas, I stumbled upon these super chic cake stands by Potluck Studios that I simply had to tell you about…

They come in three different sizes and four colors, ranging in price from $28-60. I don’t think that they are quite large enough for a wedding of 200 +, but many bakers can build your cake up rather than out to accommodate a smaller stand. Do you love them as much as I do?

Calligraphy Fans

I have had a couple of requests lately to post about creative ideas for summer fans…if you are having an outdoor wedding anywhere in the summertime, fans are a great way to cool off your guests, while still bringing in another element of design. And yet, most of the fans that are out there are either the sandalwood versions or they are paper fans on popsical sticks. Although I do love some of the wooden fans, they are not always right for every ceremony.

An Intimate though Chic Affair

In all it’s corny glory…to me, a perfect wedding is just about as good as it gets. And a perfect proposal…magical. Before I share the details for today’s inspiration board, I wanted to share their oh-so-romantic proposal story.

Fabian proposed to Karmen while at a concert at the House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio. He had coordinated the proposal with Cary Brothers, a musician from the Garden State Soundtrack, who began playing their song, “Blue Eyes” right after she said yes. Ugh…how cute is that??

Always A Bridesmaid

The girls over at Always A Bridesmaid just emailed me to let me know that they recently started taking questions from clients and readers on etiquette, style, stress and creative budgeting, etc. If you don’t already read their blog, definitely check it out…it’s packed with great tips and advice straight from the coordinators.

They also have some really fabulous ideas in their online gallery that I wanted to share with you…

Jessica Rust Designs

I was visiting my dear friend Cat, owner and designer of Cat Seto, at her new San Francisco boutique this weekend…which by the way, could possibly be the cutest little boutique I have ever seen…when I found these beautiful Jessica Rust pieces. Cat is so in-the-know with up and coming designers, so I was completely thrilled that she introduced me to Jessica’s gorgeous ceramic work.

What really caught my attention with Jessica’s designs is that each item is personalized…not in that icky-over-the-top, will-only-use-once kind of way, but in a sweetly sophisticated way. Her ceramics are delicate and understated, allowing you to commemorate your wedding or anniversary in a timeless and surprisingly chic way.

Sprinkles Cupcakes

Well, apparently the whole world discovered Sprinkles Cupcakes before I did…but, that isn’t going to stop me from going completely nuts over them. Sprinkles Cupcakes, originally based in Beverly Hills, makes the most head-over-heels adorable cupcakes…and I use the word cupcakes lightly because I am just not sure that it does these little treasures justice.

Ummm…yeah. They are that cute. For wedding favors, put these treats in clear, acetate boxes with a thick chocolate ribbon wrap around the center of the box, and a pretty, customized label placed over the ribbon with the words….”made especially for you…with love, Tait and Abby (insert bride and groom).” The perfect favor in my opinion.

R. Wood Studio

So, I am being a little cheap today, but the post on R. Wood Studio, over at Oh Joy, was just too pretty to resist! R. Wood Studio is this incredible little company out of Athens, Georgia that crafts the most gorgeous pieces of everyday and special occasion ceramics. Believe me when I tell you that the owner Rebecca, and her 12 artists, are enormously talented and in my opinion, create work that is as beautiful as it is timeless.

Bouvet Rose Champagne

I found this fabulous find while perusing the Splendora blog the other day. For those of you that don’t know, Splendora is THE authority on everything fabulous. They profile the latest and greatest in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles, always managing to find the best boutiques, newest trends and restaurants WAY before anyone else does. In a word, they are brilliant.

Anyway, I loved this particular find because to me…champagne is the epitome of luxury, of elegance, of celebration. A good champagne can turn a party into a chic affair, and yet a bad champagne can turn a a chic affair into a frat party. In all honesty though, how many people can afford to stock a bar with Dom Perignon? Not me, that’s for sure.
