Mary, one of my loyal readers, has asked me to do an inspiration board for her preppy, garden chic wedding this upcoming summer in Washington DC. She gave me so many great details and ideas that it was easy to create an inspiration board and really run with it. Mary is looking for a casual, though sophisticated ambiance...lots of pinks and greens, grosgrain ribbons and polka dots paired with elegant touches and details. Kind of a Lily Pulitzer meets Vera Wang. Here is what I came up with...
"February 2007"
I was perusing the Grace Ormonde Wedding Style site today and completely fell in love with some of the gowns that they feature for 2007. The magazine's focus is style and high end design and it shows... the gowns on the 2007 runways that are highlighted really are drool worthy. As is everything else on this site. The flowers are GORGEOUS, the event designers are over-the-top beautiful...I could go on and on and on. Okay, focus.
Today's post is absurdly late. I just got back from a weekend in Los Angeles, visiting friends, and didn't have a chance to post until now. Sorry about that! Tomorrow's post will hopefully more than make up for my tardiness:)
A couple of readers have requested posts that discuss the more practical, hands-on aspects of the wedding...things like logistics, schedules and how-tos. So, for today, I wanted to write about a rather boring, but incredibly necessary part of the wedding...
It's all in the details. I admit, a bit cliche, but when it comes to a wedding, it's so true. Chances are, most of your guests won't remember the pretty flowers you placed in the bathroom or the flawless topiaries that covered up corners, the crisp linen napkins that are the perfect shade of green or the pattern on your cake that took weeks to design. What they will notice, however, is the big picture...the style. And most of the time, that style is the result of many, many beautiful details...
I know that cupcakes, in lieu of wedding cakes, were so 2 years ago...but, I love them. I just can't help it. There are such adorable creations out there these days, I am just wondering if cupcakes are here to stay? Has the mini-cake taken it's place in the world of cake trends? What do you think...I would love to hear your comments! And, if you know of a particularly great vendor for any of type of cake, we are starting to build a vendor referral category.
Here are some of the most...
Today's inspiration board is for Ashley...she is getting married this April in Orlando, at a historic estate and considers herself to be a perfect blend of classic and contemporary, traditional and fresh. As I was putting this board together, I started picturing a really intimate, family gathering with classic southern elements and warm, gorgeous spring colors. I am kind of in love with the wedding that I have dreamed up in my head, and I hope that you will be too! Top Row: Flowers by...
In my opinion, one of THE most important things that you should invest in throughout the wedding planning process is personalized stationery. And I am not just saying that because I design stationery for a living. I am sure most of you are well aware now, that the art of the handwritten note becomes second nature to brides-to-be. I swear I wrote over three hundred thank you notes...to my girlfriends for throwing me a shower and an engagement party, to friends who sent congratulatory gifts and...
If I haven't expressed my gratitude enough...thank you, thank you thank you!!! Everyone that posted, during the Mindy Weiss contest, had such creative and constructive thoughts. Honestly, I feel really confident with the direction that I am taking with the blog and the comments only helped to solidify those sentiments. So, without further ado, the big winner of the Mindy Weiss planner is........
update...one of my favorite people, Melissa, just pointed out that I mispelled the word splurge...spluge on the photos. Yes, it's finally out in the open. I am a TERRIBLE speller. That is why design works for me! No words! I once spelled the word Massachusetts wrong on an invitation that went to 50 Massachusetts natives. and now, I am just a little too lazy to go in and change all of the photos:) The secret is out!
First and foremost...only 1 day left in the...
I wanted to start today's post by saying a HUGE thank you for the really great comments that a lot of you have left during our Mindy Weiss contest. It really has give me such a better perspective as to what direction I want to take this blog. Please keep them coming, as there are still a few days before the contest ends!
Over the next few weeks, I will be "trying on" a some of your ideas...I am going to spend the weekend working on a splurge vs. steal post and an amazing (seriously...
