Preppy but Elegant

Mary, one of my loyal readers, has asked me to do an inspiration board for her preppy, garden chic wedding this upcoming summer in Washington DC. She gave me so many great details and ideas that it was easy to create an inspiration board and really run with it. Mary is looking for a casual, though sophisticated ambiance...lots of pinks and greens, grosgrain ribbons and polka dots paired with elegant touches and details. Kind of a Lily Pulitzer meets Vera Wang. Here is what I came up with...

Splurge Vs. Save: Dresses

I was perusing the Grace Ormonde Wedding Style site today and completely fell in love with some of the gowns that they feature for 2007. The magazine's focus is style and high end design and it shows... the gowns on the 2007 runways that are highlighted really are drool worthy. As is everything else on this site. The flowers are GORGEOUS, the event designers are over-the-top beautiful...I could go on and on and on. Okay, focus.

Schedules, Schedules and more Schedules!

Today's post is absurdly late. I just got back from a weekend in Los Angeles, visiting friends, and didn't have a chance to post until now. Sorry about that! Tomorrow's post will hopefully more than make up for my tardiness:)

A couple of readers have requested posts that discuss the more practical, hands-on aspects of the wedding...things like logistics, schedules and how-tos. So, for today, I wanted to write about a rather boring, but incredibly necessary part of the wedding...

It’s All In The Details…

It's all in the details. I admit, a bit cliche, but when it comes to a wedding, it's so true. Chances are, most of your guests won't remember the pretty flowers you placed in the bathroom or the flawless topiaries that covered up corners, the crisp linen napkins that are the perfect shade of green or the pattern on your cake that took weeks to design. What they will notice, however, is the big picture...the style. And most of the time, that style is the result of many, many beautiful details...

Mini Cakes or Cupcakes?

I know that cupcakes, in lieu of wedding cakes, were so 2 years ago...but, I love them. I just can't help it. There are such adorable creations out there these days, I am just wondering if cupcakes are here to stay? Has the mini-cake taken it's place in the world of cake trends? What do you think...I would love to hear your comments! And, if you know of a particularly great vendor for any of type of cake, we are starting to build a vendor referral category.

Here are some of the most...

An Intimate Gathering

Today's inspiration board is for Ashley...she is getting married this April in Orlando, at a historic estate and considers herself to be a perfect blend of classic and contemporary, traditional and fresh. As I was putting this board together, I started picturing a really intimate, family gathering with classic southern elements and warm, gorgeous spring colors. I am kind of in love with the wedding that I have dreamed up in my head, and I hope that you will be too! Top Row: Flowers by...

Personlized Stationery

In my opinion, one of THE most important things that you should invest in throughout the wedding planning process is personalized stationery. And I am not just saying that because I design stationery for a living. I am sure most of you are well aware now, that the art of the handwritten note becomes second nature to brides-to-be. I swear I wrote over three hundred thank you notes...to my girlfriends for throwing me a shower and an engagement party, to friends who sent congratulatory gifts and...

Honestly, I feel really confident with the direction that I am taking with the blog and the comments only helped to solidify those sentiments. So, without further ado, the big winner of the Mindy Weiss planner is........

Splurge vs. Steal

update...one of my favorite people, Melissa, just pointed out that I mispelled the word splurge...spluge on the photos. Yes, it's finally out in the open. I am a TERRIBLE speller. That is why design works for me! No words! I once spelled the word Massachusetts wrong on an invitation that went to 50 Massachusetts natives. and now, I am just a little too lazy to go in and change all of the photos:) The secret is out!

First and foremost...only 1 day left in the...

Vintage Chic

One of our readers, Alice, recently sent me some ideas for her June wedding, and asked me to do an inspiration board for her. I was especially happy to see that Alice has exquisite taste, so the task was actually quite easy! I am obsessed with her Monique Lhuillier dress and being from the San Francisco area, I am in love with her Lake Tahoe wedding location.

When I saw the pictures that she sent me, I had absolutely no trouble coming...

Contest: Mindy Weiss Planner

Every night, after work, but before Primetime, I blog...I reach into my little bag of goodies, finding the most innovative and unique ideas that people are doing, and I write. And, much to my delight, brides are reading it! Everyday more and more people check out my blog and it is actually starting to take on a life of it's own. I love that.

And yet, I have no idea who those readers are. What they want, what they love. So today, is you're day. I really want this blog to be a place...

Today, my dear friend, Jill has offered her own wedding for a wedding snapshot. Having been a bridesmaid, I can say first hand, this wedding was SPECTACULAR. Debi Lilly, of A Perfect Event in Chicago, along with Jill and her mother put together an affair that would make any little girl dreaming of her fairy tale wedding, jump with joy.

Our wedding was in downtown Chicago at the...

Tradition with a Twist

Update...I have had such a great response to Jean's inspiration board! I think that we will start doing one or two of these a week, so definitely send me your wedding ideas!

We have a really fun post today. One of our readers, Jean, asked me for a little help in creating a look for her wedding. Jean's church is very traditional in that perfect white steeple way, though her...

Color Palettes

Okay, I admit, this post is a little cheap of me, but I have just had one of those days. I wanted to do a little spread on the pink and gold theme that Martha has in her latest issue. I love it. I love it. I love it. Pink and gold, my two favorite colors.

I can't even...

In Style Celebrity Weddings

Going with the same kind of fashion theme we talked about yesterday, I decided to post about ABC's In Style Celebrity Weddings that aired this past Monday. Did anyone see it? Unfortunately, I have been out of town and didn't even find out that it was on until yesterday. My mom and dad had to fill me in on all of the details (how sad is that by the way?).

I found some good pictures and recaps, but I would LOVE to hear...

Amy Kuschel

I thought that in honor of NY Fashion Week, I would do a couple of posts on wedding attire. The only thing is that I am in Boston right now, visiting family, and it is difficult for me to make all of the pretty picture collages that I usually do....so, bear with me.

I am sure a lot of you have heard of this super fab designer, Amy Kuschel, based out of San Francisco. For those of you that...

Edible Favors

Favors seem to have come a LONG way from your standard Jordan almonds haven’t they? It is amazing how extravagant the favors can get at weddings these days. Let’s see, I have received silver fortune cookies with personalized messages inside, jeweled Chinese slippers to “dance the night away,” monogrammed chocolates, customized...
